Alta Moda 2023 collection by Dolce & Gabbana
Dolce & Gabbana once again demonstrated to fans of high fashion and trendsetters the skill of creating an elegant, unique style, their love and commitment to Italian traditions, and the ability to bring bold ideas to life.
The Alta Moda collection, inspired by the wonderful site of trulli architecture, was presented on July 9 in the charming province of Apulia. As at all previous Dolce & Gabbana shows, the guests saw an impeccable cut, a balanced combination of romantic lightness and a monumental history, exquisite and fascinating details that are characteristic of the brand.
The garments in the Alta Moda Collection reveal a symphony of intricate cuts and masterful handiwork, exuding timeless elegance. Nets, scallops, and crochet decorations interlace gracefully, adorned with small bouquets of flowers, buds, and leaves that pay homage to the wonders of Puglia.
Alta Moda combines weightless lace, authentic handmade embroidery, and sophisticated elegant cut. Each piece of clothing in this collection is a nod to the unshakable ancient traditions of the Apulia region, the rich Italian heritage, which, centuries later, is reflected in modern art.
The fairy-tale town of Alberobello in the province of Apulia in southern Italy was not accidentally chosen as the venue for the show. The architectural feature of this particular city became the motive and inspiration for the collection. Apulia enchants with ancient olive groves and snow-white stone houses on cozy cobbled streets. And the main feature and unique attraction of the province are the old trulli houses in Alberobello. These are unique white stone buildings with cone-shaped roofs, which are found only in this place, and nowhere else in the world.
You could immerse yourself in the charming atmosphere of the province of the Italian south, walking along ancient streets. This is a place of handicrafts passed down from father to son, traditional bakeries, and fine dry wine. The creators skillfully intertwined the local flavor with feminine images.
Celebrities enjoying the show included Venus Williams, Erling Haaland, Christian Bale, Kim and Chris Kardashian, and Helen Mirren. With this show, Dolce & Gabbana supported the “Save the Olives” charity organization, which was created to combat the Xylella epidemic that is destroying the olive groves in Salento. “Save the Olives” is also working to save the olive groves of Apulia, which are one of the most valuable heritage of the region. The Hollywood actress Helen Mirren is one of the representatives of this organization.
And now let’s move on to the main thing, to the very images of Alta Moda, which you can look at for hours, admiring the fine workmanship of every detail. The two main colors of the collection are white and black. White shines and creates a fabulous and festive atmosphere, like the white stone buildings of Alberobello. Black reflects the Mediterranean sensibility and elegance inherent in the brand.
One of the memorable and bright images of the collection was a shiny mini-dress, hand-sewn from golden ribbons. This is a tribute to the local artisans who make raffia baskets. Ribbons and hand-woven steel can be called the leading motif of the collection. Dolce & Gabbana designers are famous for their reverent attitude to the traditions of their homeland, and each Alta Moda 2023 piece is a unique combination of creative thought and a rethinking of the essence of Italian craftsmanship.
The guests of the show also remembered the huge black hats in the form of the domes of those same trulli buildings. The silhouette of the dome is also seen in puffy black translucent skirts made of mesh fabric with crinoline, which are combined in one look with lace linen. For the manufacture of skirts and capes, designers used many different fabrics and details in the form of embroidery and lace. Skirts can be called the most elaborate and perfect items of the collection. Each of them reflects the hilly streets and the unique architecture of Apulia.
The special attention of the audience was riveted to the smallest details of the images. High craftsmanship, characteristic of Italian culture and craftsmanship, is another highlight of the collection. What is worth the amazing violet midi sundress, completely sewn from decorative flowers!
In the early years of the brand’s existence, Dolce & Gabbana caught the attention of fashion experts with elegant men’s-style tuxedos for women. They were in this collection as a reminder of the history of the fashion house, its values, and its origins.
Alta Moda 2023 turned out to be quite restrained and laconic compared to last year’s collections, full of gold and silver. This year, the designers offered the guests of the show and fans of the brand soft and airy silhouettes, a relaxed romantic mood, and sensuality. Why not? Especially in this beautiful old place, where you want to enjoy the landscapes, the aromas of fresh bread and flowers.
