Dubai. The Boring Company (TBC) and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have signed a contract to implement a new infrastructure project — the Dubai Loop underground transport system. The initiative will become part of the emirate’s strategy to introduce innovative urban transport solutions and reduce congestion on the road network.
The project is being implemented with the support of Dubai’s leadership. In an official statement, The Boring Company expressed its gratitude to Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as to RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer and his team for their assistance in launching the project.

The Dubai Loop will be developed in stages. The first phase of the project is a pilot stage and предусматривает the construction of 6.4 kilometers of underground tunnels, as well as four passenger stations. The start of construction works is scheduled for the end of 2026.
The pilot system will allow for testing technical solutions, passenger flow management, and the integration of the new transport model into the city’s existing infrastructure. Based on the results of this phase, a decision will be made regarding further expansion of the network.
Dubai Loop is an underground transport system in which passengers will travel in electric vehicles through a network of dedicated tunnels. Unlike traditional metro systems, the project envisions the use of more compact tunnels and flexible route configurations, making it possible to reduce construction time and costs.
According to the developers, the system is designed for high capacity, minimal waiting times, and direct connections between key urban locations without intermediate stops.

It is expected that Dubai Loop will help reduce road congestion, shorten travel times in the city’s most densely populated areas, and improve the environmental sustainability of the transport system through the use of electric vehicles.
The project is also seen as a complement to existing public transport modes, including the metro, tram, and bus networks, rather than a replacement for them.
The launch of Dubai Loop aligns with Dubai’s long-term strategy to develop the “smart city” concept, introduce advanced technologies, and enhance the quality of the urban environment. Cooperation with The Boring Company highlights the emirate’s commitment to using unconventional engineering solutions to address the transport challenges of a мегаполис.
If the pilot phase is successfully implemented, Dubai Loop could become the foundation for a larger-scale underground transport network and one of the key elements of Dubai’s future transport infrastructure.
