One of the key objectives of New8 is to co-produce eight TV series annually, starting from 2023. Building on a Nordic Tradition

New8’s formation builds upon a longstanding tradition of trust-based collaboration among Nordic public service broadcasters, who have previously exchanged their best dramas. These exchanges have resulted in notable successes, such as ‘Exit’ and ‘The Thin Blue Line,’ which garnered substantial international audiences.

Now, New8 extends this collaborative model to other EBU broadcast members, bringing renowned series like “The Twelve” (VRT), “Red Light” (NPO), “The Crash” (NPO), “Kudamm 63,” and “The Swarm” (co-produced by ZDF) into the fold. With releases starting in 2024, the partnership is poised to take European drama to new heights.

Anna Croneman, Head of Drama at SVT, expressed enthusiasm about the expanded collaboration:

“At SVT, we are incredibly happy to join forces with such powerful partners as ZDF, VRT, and NPO to be able to offer our audience even more high-end drama.”

The TV series produced under the New8 collaboration will initially be published in the German-speaking territories (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) and in The Netherlands, Belgium (Flemish-speaking), Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and Norway. The agreement between the partners is set to last for an initial period of three years, with the first series greenlit in 2023 and available for publication in all participating territories from 2024.
