Stricter Dress Code at La Scala Theatre: New Rules for Attendees

The Milanese theatre La Scala, renowned worldwide, has announced the introduction of stricter dress code requirements for its visitors. In response to mixed feedback regarding the attire of some guests, the theatre strongly recommends dressing “in accordance with theatre etiquette.” This means a ban on entry to the auditorium in t-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops.

These rules are not new for La Scala: restrictions on beachwear were established back in 2015 when Milan hosted the World Expo, and the theatre sought to create a more formal atmosphere. However, adherence to these rules has been lax over the years, with many attendees appearing in inappropriate clothing.

The theatre’s representatives emphasize the need for more rigorous enforcement, especially in hot weather. “Some audience members have expressed dissatisfaction with the inappropriate appearance of other guests, particularly when they arrive in flip-flops. In a theatre where people sit close together, this becomes especially noticeable,” noted officials at La Scala.

With the introduction of stricter enforcement of the dress code, attendees should be aware that their appearance will be scrutinized more closely. This change underscores La Scala’s commitment to preserving the traditions and atmosphere of theatrical performance, where not only the shows but also the appearance of the audience contribute to the overall experience.

Therefore, if you plan to visit La Scala, keep in mind the new rules and choose an outfit that aligns with theatre etiquette. This will not only help avoid misunderstandings at the entrance but also allow you to fully enjoy the ambiance of one of the most prestigious theatres in the world.
