This October, the glitzy streets of Monaco shone a little brighter as the XXXI annual Gala dinner of the Association Monegasque des Sommeliers took center stage. Under the skilled guidance of Dominique Milardi, the President of the AMS, and his dedicated team, this gala became an unforgettable night of wine, fine dining, and celebration.
One of the many highlights of the evening was the presence of none other than H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. His annual attendance is a testament to the grandeur and importance of this event. The Gala dinner of the Association of Sommeliers is not just any event but a must-attend for connoisseurs of fine wines and slow food. What sets the Monegasque Association of Sommeliers apart is its unique international Association of sommeliers with its own anthem, created by the Orchestra of the Prince’s Carabinieri under the great benevolence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.
In 2023, this gala served as a springboard for the World General Assembly of Sommeliers, scheduled for February 22 to 24 in the Principality of Monaco under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. This international event will host the world’s best sommeliers from 68 countries, underlining its global significance.
The gala guests reveled in the festivities until the early morning hours, with some staying even longer to enjoy exclusive liqueurs and fine cigars on the panoramic terrace of the Yacht Club. The breathtaking view of Monaco’s night lights made it feel like a scene from a fairy tale. The evening was further elevated by the enchanting performances of the “Roca team” dancers.
The gala was not just about indulgence and celebration; it was a platform for giving back. Many guests walked away with over 150 prestigious presents and gifts from a raffle generously offered by members and partners of AMS. Additionally, the Association made a modest contribution to the Prince Albert II Foundation to support its mission of protecting planetary health.
The event was graced by numerous prominent figures from the wine industry, including Pietro Satanino, the best sommelier in the world, and Fabrice Sommier, President of the Union of the Sommellerie Française. A Remarkable Association The Monegasque Association of Sommeliers boasts over 85 members, a remarkable achievement that solidifies Monaco’s reputation as the country with the most sommeliers per square kilometer.
As we look back on this spectacular evening, we can’t help but raise a glass to the fine wines, exquisite cuisine, and the tireless dedication of the Association Monegasque des Sommeliers. This annual gala has undoubtedly secured its place as one of the premier events for wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs of the culinary arts. It’s a true celebration of the art of sommeliers and a testament to the passion and dedication of those who ensure that every glass is perfect. We eagerly await the 2024 gala, which promises to be even grander, if possible, in Monaco’s enchanting principality.
