Donald Trump, the Republican Party candidate, has surpassed the necessary threshold of 270 electoral votes, securing 277 votes according to preliminary data from Fox News. Kamala Harris, representing the Democratic Party, has garnered 226 votes. The New York Times estimates Trump’s chances of winning at 95%. Republicans are also leading Democrats in the Congressional elections.

The U.S. presidential election occurs in two stages: a popular vote followed by the Electoral College vote, which consists of 538 representatives from all states and the District of Columbia. A candidate needs at least 270 electoral votes to win.

According to the Associated Press, Trump has claimed victory in the swing state of North Carolina, gaining 16 electoral votes. It was previously suggested that to reach 270 votes, Trump needed to win in Georgia and Pennsylvania or in other key states such as Michigan and Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, CNN and AP project a victory for Harris in California, which provides 54 electoral votes. Democrats significantly outnumber Republicans in this state. Harris also secured a majority in the District of Columbia. Despite losing some votes, Harris still has a path to victory if she wins in states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Fox News also reports that the Republican Party is leading in the Congressional elections. In the Senate, Republicans are vying for 51 seats, while Democrats have 43. In the House of Representatives, Republicans hold 188 seats compared to 162 for Democrats.

As of the morning of November 6, The New York Times estimates Trump’s chances of winning the election at 95%, based on preliminary results. Official results may be announced by mid-December, according to Bloomberg.

Amid forecasts of Trump’s victory in the presidential election, Bitcoin’s price reached a new record high of $75,000, surpassing the previous peak of $73,777 set in March 2024.
