The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced the latest updates regarding the permit for UAE residents who stay outside the country for more than six months. The new regulations, which came into effect at the beginning of 2023, require individuals to present a valid reason for their extended stay abroad. However, there is an exemption for Dubai residents who hold Golden Visas.
According to the ICP, Dubai residents are not included in the requirement for the permit. Golden Visa holders in Dubai are exempt and do not need to provide a reason for their extended stay abroad. This update offers relief for those individuals who hold Golden Visas, granting them flexibility in their residency requirements.
For individuals sponsored by a company, the application for the permit must be submitted through the sponsoring entity. Those under personal sponsorship are responsible for submitting the application themselves or through their sponsor. Self-sponsored individuals can apply for the permit using their personal account or public service facilities, as specified by the ICP.
To obtain the permit, applicants must provide copies of their Emirates ID, passport, and a valid reason for the delay in returning to the UAE. It is important to note that the application must be made from outside the UAE. The application can be submitted once the remaining stay abroad exceeds 30 days.
In the case of approval, individuals will be subject to a fine of AED100 for every 30 days or less spent outside the country. It is worth mentioning that violation fees will only be refunded if the application is rejected. Once the permit is granted, applicants must enter the UAE within 30 days.
The ICP has provided multiple channels for individuals to apply for the permit. They can utilize the authority’s innovative services system or the “UAEICP” smartphone application, both of which incur a fee of AED150. Customer Happiness centers or approved typing offices can also assist with the application process, as directed by the ICP.
Residents affected by these updates are strongly advised to familiarize themselves with the new regulations and ensure compliance. This will help them avoid unnecessary penalties or complications when re-entering the country. It is essential to stay informed about the requirements and procedures to ensure a smooth transition back to the UAE for those residing abroad for an extended period.
