Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa of the 2024 Venice Biennale
In the world of art, bold and relevant themes that inspire artists and audiences to new discoveries and reflections are always highly valued. And now, the greatest art event, the Venice Biennale, announces the theme of its upcoming event, scheduled for 2024. It becomes the focus of attention not only for artists and curators but also for the entire global art community.
The 60th Venice Biennale of Art, under the guidance of curator and artistic director Adriano Pedrosa, presents a theme that is so relevant and captivating that it leaves no one indifferent. It explores the concept of “being a stranger” and addresses those who often find themselves beyond borders – exiles, emigrants, and outsiders.
Adriano Pedrosa, the first Latin American curator of the Biennale and the first director from the Southern Hemisphere, emphasizes that everyone is a stranger with their own traditions and culture. This reflects the modern world, where numerous crises force people to move both within and beyond their countries.
The theme’s title is borrowed from the series of works “Stranieri Ovunque” (“Foreigners Everywhere”), initiated in 2004 by the conceptual collective Claire Fontaine from Palermo. The duo used simple neon signs with slogans in different languages, which can be perceived as fact or threat.
The Venice Biennale of Art has always served as a platform for discussing important and relevant topics, and 2024 will be no exception. The theme of “being a stranger” promises to inspire artists to create works that will provoke dialogue and become a subject of discussion for the public. We look forward to the opening of this exciting art event, which will undoubtedly bring many new discoveries and impressions.
