On May 30 and 31, the long-awaited premiere of the play “Sorry for My English” will take place in the unique cultural space of Teal House in Warsaw. This bold and intimate performance explores how we strive to establish contact with others when the language we communicate in is not our native one.
Communication is not just about words and grammatical structures; it is energy, rhythm, and a deep need to be understood. The play, created and performed by artists who have been forced to leave their home countries for political reasons, transforms linguistic shortcomings into its greatest strength. Through humor, sensitivity, and a creative approach to language barriers, it offers viewers a unique theatrical experience that enriches the English-speaking audience. In this context, foreignness becomes not a barrier but the very essence of the narrative.
“Sorry for My English” is a vibrant blend of monologues, poetry, music, and movement, based on original texts written by the performers themselves. Many participants — actors, writers, educators, and cultural figures — live between languages and identities, creating and expressing themselves in a second language. Through their personal stories, the play illustrates the beauty and pain of trying to speak about love, loss, or belonging in a world where words feel foreign.
This emotionally charged and humorous performance invites audiences to experience the courage needed not only to speak but also to be heard. It inspires the search for one’s place in a language that has not yet fully become one’s own.
The cast includes: Catalina Cazacu, Dariia Gomez Chakon, Vanda Konisevich, Vadim Korolev, Gladston Mahib, Stefani Elizaveta Burmakova, and Albina Sirchenko. The creative team features artistic director Ivan Vyrypaev, author and director Aleksandr Spilevoj, set and costume designer Elizaveta Borodinova, lighting designer Alexey Poluboyarinov, and composer Vadim Korolev.
The premiere will take place at Teal House — an independent cultural space founded in 2022 by Karolina Gruszka and Ivan Vyrypaev. This venue supports artists in the process of integration through culture and artistic practices, creating a unique platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this remarkable theatrical event!
