Dubai World Cup 2023

It was a day of excitement and stunning performances at the Dubai World Cup, where some of the world’s finest horses and jockeys competed for a share of the event’s massive $30 million prize pool.

In a thrilling display of horsemanship, jockey Yuga Kawada rode Ushba Tesoro to a stunning victory, triumphantly winning the final race and earning a staggering $12 million in prize money.

This marks Japan’s second triumph at the event, which featured a total of nine exhilarating races at Meydan. Despite initially appearing to fall behind, Kawada and Ushba Tesoro surged forward in a powerful finish, overtaking James Doyle and Algiers to secure a comfortable win. Algiers still managed to put up an impressive performance, claiming second place, while Emblem Road, last year’s Saudi Cup winner, emerged as the top contender among the chasing pack to clinch the third spot on the podium. This was undoubtedly an unforgettable moment for Kawada, Ushba Tesoro, and their dedicated fans.

Equinox put on a spectacular display of speed and agility in the Dubai Sheema Classic, securing a comfortable victory and claiming the $6 million prize.

Meanwhile, Frankie Dettori and Lord North dazzled the crowd with their skillful maneuvers, clinching the $5 million Dubai Turf.

In the Dubai Golden Shaheen, Sibelius emerged victorious in a fiercely contested race, edging out Switzerland for the win.

Derma Sotogake delivered an impressive performance in the UAE Derby, cruising to a comfortable victory.

Danyah displayed incredible speed and agility to win the $1.5 million Al Quoz Sprint, while Broome swept up in the Dubai Gold Cup. Isolate claimed victory in the Group 2 Godolphin Mile, and Hayyan won the thrilling opening race at Meydan, kicking off the day’s festivities in style. It was a truly unforgettable day of horse racing, showcasing the very best of the sport on a global stage.

The event was graced with the presence of numerous celebrities and esteemed members of the royal family, including HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the ruler of Dubai and the Vice President of the UAE.

Many would assume that the Dubai World Cup, boasting a colossal $12 million prize fund that extends to the eighth-placed horse, is the most lucrative horse race in the world. However, this assumption is incorrect. The 1m2f competition held this past weekend is actually the second richest horse race globally, with the Saudi Cup’s jaw-dropping prize of $20 million completely overshadowing that of the Dubai World Cup. The Saudi Cup, which took place on February 25th, remains the true king of horse racing in terms of financial reward.
