Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s much-anticipated Midfield Terminal, now rebranded as Terminal A, is gearing up for its official opening in November 2023. This long-awaited development promises to revolutionize the region’s aviation landscape, bolster Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a global hub, and enhance passenger experiences.

A New Era for Abu Dhabi’s Aviation

The Abu Dhabi International Airport has been undergoing a significant transformation with the construction of Terminal A, also known as the Midfield Terminal. Initially planned for completion in 2017, several delays pushed the opening date to 2023. These delays were not due to construction issues but rather a strategic shift in the government’s aviation plans.

Terminal A: A Hub of Innovation

Terminal A covers a massive 742,000 square meters, making it one of the world’s largest airport terminals. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, it offers passengers a seamless and digitized journey, starting from pre-travel to the boarding gate. This includes self-service kiosks, streamlined security checkpoints, and state-of-the-art baggage handling systems, all interconnected through biometric systems.

With a capacity to accommodate up to 45 million passengers annually and process 11,000 travelers per hour, Terminal A is set to become a bustling hub of activity. It can also handle 79 aircraft simultaneously, further solidifying Abu Dhabi’s position as a global aviation leader.

Beyond its functionality, Terminal A’s architecture is a visual marvel. The terminal’s glass exterior maximizes natural light, creating an awe-inspiring space within. The building aligns with the UAE’s sustainability goals, boasting energy-efficient lighting, advanced HVAC systems, and sustainable construction materials.

In a remarkable move toward sustainability, a three-megawatt solar photovoltaic system on the terminal’s car park roof will save nearly 5,300 tons of CO₂ annually.
