Two British women lost luxury items worth around £866,000 after their room in a five-star hotel in Saint-Tropez was robbed by burglars. The incident occurred just hours after their arrival at the popular resort on the French Riviera.
According to local media reports, after spending the evening at a restaurant, the women returned to their room around midnight to find everything ransacked. The door to the private terrace was broken, and the safe containing their valuables had been torn from the wall. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at £866,780, including 11 Hermes Birkin bags, Dior luggage, Patek Philippe watches, Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry, and Cartier pieces, including an engagement ring. Additionally, bank cards and €15,000 in cash were also taken.
A friend of the victims, Sabrina, told the local newspaper Var Matin, “They were completely robbed. They don’t even have their passports anymore. It’s a vacation that turned into a nightmare.” The women arrived in Saint-Tropez around 5 PM and decided to go out for dinner at 8 PM, but upon returning to their room, they faced a horrifying situation.

Sabrina added that no hotel staff heard anything suspicious during the burglary. “My friends contacted the hotel owner, who merely played the victim,” she stated.
The victims reported the theft to local police and subsequently left the hotel to find another place to stay until they can return to the UK. Sabrina also noted that hotels claiming to be five-star should provide better security for their guests, adding that such incidents tarnish the image of both France and Saint-Tropez.
The prosecutor in charge of the case has yet to comment on the situation. Meanwhile, it is known that this luxury hotel has been plagued by a series of burglaries this summer. In one recent incident, a Brazilian tourist reportedly lost goods worth €123,000. Reports indicate that two Patek Philippe bracelets, an Audemars Piguet watch, and €3,000 in cash were stolen from his room while he enjoyed breakfast and a workout.
Currently, two hotel employees have been summoned to appear in court regarding the case, while the victimized tourists continue to await information about compensation for their losses.
